Abu Dhabi National Library seeks to provide lifelong learning opportunities to the community in support of national development. A brand was needed to support and develop this mission, helping the library grow and serve the needs of contemporary Emirati society.
The way we use information is changing rapidly and the library’s new brand would need to reflect this, taking into account everything from oral story-telling to digital communication platforms, as well as more traditional paper-based sources of information such as books and manuscripts.
The inspiration for this visual identity came from multiple voices articulating “Abu Dhabi”. The examples that follow capture the wave patterns of these voices, each of which has a unique footprint. The identity is always changing, expressing the variety and diversity of the region.
The shape of the identity is taken from different frequencies. These frequencies are taken from the voices of people in the community saying the words ‘Abu Dhabi’. Because the voices of each individual is different, the brand mark/ visual language will always be changing.
